Sanchi

Sanchi is a very small village in the Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh. It’s just 46 kilometres from east of Bhopal and hence very easy to locate. The city is world-famous for its Buddhist Stupas & monuments. Not just one or two, there are plenty of Buddhist monuments and a lot to learn about the culture and tradition of Buddhism.

Moreover, on 11th September 2012, the government of Madhya Pradesh made an announcement that the Sanchi University of Buddhist- Indic Studies will be located at Sanchi and in close proximity to the stupa. These Stupas form an important part of tourism as many tourist visits to witness these grand monuments. Also, monasteries and shrines from the third century BC to twelfth century AD exist here.

The Sanchi Museum is one place here where the tourist can get a complete history of this place and also see the objects kept here which are 2000 years old. A remarkable collection of antiques belonging to various dynasties are kept in the museum to teach the visitors about the lifestyle and traditions of the people of those days.

The Gupta temple constructed in the 5th century shows architecture excellence of the Gupta Period. The Ashoka pillar approximately 50 meters in height is also a popular tourist attraction. Along with these the Udayagiri Caves, The Great Stupa, Jain temples, and much more lies to explore in this historically rich city.

How to reach Sanchi?

By Air: If you are opting for air route, then the Raja Bhoj Airport, Bhopal is the closest domestic airport. Although, there are few flight options direct / via to travel from cities like Delhi, Mumbai and others.

By Train: Sanchi is not directly connected to the rail route, but to reach there Bhopal railway junction is the best option.

By Road: Travelling to Sanchi by road is enrouting Bhopal. If you opt for our tour package to Madhya Pradesh including Sanchi and other touristy places we start from Mumbai, Delhi, Bhopal or Jabalpur.

Best time to visit Sanchi

To have an enjoyable time to this place, winter is the best time i.e. October to March. Summer is extremely hot. Month of June and September is likely favourable time during monsoon.
